Malthouse Garden - Ideal for All - Beacon Site

Ideal for All's third acre fully accessible garden is based in Smethwick next to the Independent Living Centre. The garden is divided into four areas, wildlife area, propagation area, decorative garden and food growing area. It has an indoor classroom, polytunnel and greenhouse, toilets.

The garden was developed with the vision and input of disabled people, and is now used for therapeutic gardening sessions, active gardening for the over 50's, cooking workshops and other activities. Schools have used the gardens in the past for curriculum support.

The garden is supervised by fully trained Horticultural Therapist. Malthouse Garden is part of the Growing Opportunities programme of Ideal for All, and is sister project to Salop Drive Market Garden.

Services Offered

  • Active gardening sessions for over 50’s
  • Basic gardening courses accredited with OCN (Open College Network).
  • Monthly Garden Club with guest speakers; 2009; first Wednesday of the month, 6-8p.m. meets at Independent Living Centre, all welcome.
  • Slimwell; Weight Management Courses start March 2009.
  • Regular cooking sessions
  • Visits and school groups can be arranged

Participation

Garden activities are open to Sandwell residents.
